If you ever wondered what it’s like to run a busy bakery and star in a reality show at the same time, here’s a little peek behind the frosting. A few years back, our world turned deliciously upside down when DC Cupcakes premiered - a reality show that followed us as we chased our dream of running Georgetown Cupcake as sisters.
When the cameras first rolled, we had no idea what we were in for. Between the early-morning flour deliveries, late-night recipe testing, and endless trays of cupcakes coming out of the oven, life was already pretty chaotic. But add a full TV crew into the mix - lights, mics, producers, and a camera in your face while you’re trying to frost 1,000 cupcakes and things got a whole lot crazier.
Each episode captured not just the sugar and buttercream, but the heart of our bakery -family, friendship, and a good dose of sisterly squabbles. We were just two sisters trying to keep up with a business that was growing faster than we could bake, all while learning how to tell our story on camera.
Some of our favorite moments were the big, over-the-top cupcake sculptures we got to create. We built everything from a life-sized wedding dress made of cupcakes to army tanks, animals, and baked the world’s largest cupcake - ONE TON - 2,594 lbs to be exact. We still hold the Guinness World Record! Each project started as a wild idea scribbled on a napkin and turned into an all-night marathon of baking, frosting, and engineering (yes, there’s a surprising amount of math in cupcake architecture).
Filming DC Cupcakes was equal parts exhausting and exhilarating. There were long days, lots of laughter, and more powdered sugar on the camera equipment than anyone expected. But what made it all worth it was the chance to share our passion with the world - to show that baking can be both an art and an adventure.
Looking back, those years were a whirlwind of creativity, chaos, and pure fun. We met so many amazing fans, inspired other small business owners, and proved that with enough hard work (and buttercream), dreams really can come true.
So here’s to the memories, the mayhem! Our time on DC Cupcakes was more than just a TV show – it was the story of two sisters, with a sack of flour and a dream. You can still stream your favorite episodes on Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video, or Discovery+!
